When everything is privatized, and you have no government intervention, prices go as high as the private investors believe they can charge. So if you pay $5,000 in taxes every year, chances are, it would cost you more than that in increased prices for almost everything.

Their platform indicates that they expect each person to do what is right, and because everyone will, we do not need government. Do you really believe people who break the law, when there are laws, can be counted on to do what is right when there are no consequences? But, if there is no law, do you defend yourself? If so, aren't you violating the other person's right? True Libertarians (who follow the platform) are against abortion laws, laws concerning religion, laws supporting religion, taxes, regulations, protecting the environment, etc.

As the United States, we are a large, formidable country, with only a few borders that are easily penetrated. As separate states, how vulnerable would we be? Would you trust your surrounding states to help keep your borders safe?
So, look at what our tax dollars provide us with and see what you want to eliminate. Then, instead of complaining, contact your representatives, and ask them to do something about it. And, don't vote if you do not know what your representative actually stands for. Check their voting record, not their promises. See what bills they have sponsored? If the candidates have not served in government before, check their credentials. Do they understand the Constitution? What have they done to contribute to society up until now? Who is donating to them? What do those who know them say? How do they live? If wealthy, do they help others? Are they honest about their past? Do they answer questions, avoid them, or change the subject? Do they support education? Do they support equal freedoms for all?
Claims of "fiscal responsibility" are proven to be false when billions of dollars are wasted on frivolous bills that can never pass, failure to discuss and debate submitted bills, and including "amendments" that add additional costs to the bill (usually about something other than the actual bill), and shutting down the government.
If you really want a change in our government, you need to be an informed voter, who votes based on facts, not feelings. Base your decision on past performance, not empty promises. If you really want to change government, run for office. Or, be the most informed voter possible. The U.S. wins when our voters are intelligent, informed, and inquisitive.
The People lose when voters vote based solely on party, or political promises. If you have never voted across party lines, you just might be what's wrong with this country. Not everyone follows party platform. Candidates are not always what their ads say they are. Look at how many representatives have proven that they do not actually live by the standards they claimed to be for. And STOP falling for Media's LIES!!! Check it out for yourself, and not from a biased website!
So, small government, no government, state only, or fix what we have? If you don't vote intelligently, it is up to those who buy our Congressmen that will decide for you. It is up to each one of us to make sure our representatives know what we expect of them. Let's not get stuck on "talking points". It is better to be specific. You want to "cut spending"? Where??
