So You Think You Want No Government (Or very small Government)?

So you want smaller government? Or no government at all?
You think government has gotten too big?  Would you rather only your own state ruled over you?  What would happen if the federal government was not funded? You want smaller government? Which of these do you want to get rid of?
Here is a guide to the * in the list:
                          *federal & state both involved
                          **federal only
                          ***state only

Let’s see how that would look:

No one to protect our freedom*
No military to protect our country**
No police forces*
Every state would have it's own laws (no reason to reciprocate)***
Gun permits would not be good across state lines*
No fire departments (only volunteer – and they would have to buy their own
               equipment and buildings, too)*
No road being maintained*
No signals and stop signs – lines in roads, etc*
No public utilities (higher utility bills due to having to pay for power lines, sewer
         lines, etc)*
No water treatment plants*
No road crews in bad weather*
No rescue crews (except volunteer – again they would have to pay for all their
          own equipment)*
Bridges would not be repaired*
Paved roads, if maintained, would have to become toll roads to pay for repairs*
No public schools*
No courts*
No prisons*
No protection from slum lords*
Oil prices would go up due to no subsidies, and the oil companies would pay for
              all their drilling, etc*
Food prices would go up due to no subsidies*
Airlines would have to pay for airports, security, maintenance, air traffic
controllers, radar  (Airplane ticket costs would skyrocket)*
No airline inspectors **
No International relations – which could lead to tariffs on anything coming from
abroad, and the inability to sell our goods overseas**
No embassies in other countries, no ambassadors**
No space exploration**
No emergency help after disasters**
No food stamps*
No student loans**
No Pell Grants**
No membership in NATO, UN, etc**
No allies from other countries. **
Cell phone companies and GPS services would raise prices due to paying for
                   rocket launches
Your money in the bank would not be insured, so if a bank squandered your
money, or went bankrupt, your money is gone!**
Hospitals could refuse service if you couldn’t pay*
No food or health inspectors*
No protection at the borders*
No regulations to protect you from corporations that want to take your land**
No protection for our waterways and land**
No public museums, libraries, parks, or maintenance on historic sites**
No laws to protect your retirement**
No laws to protect you from unfair labor practices**
No unemployment if you lose your job*
Nothing to keep the states together**
No Congress**
No Social Security**
No Medicare**
No health departments*
No forestry service (which would lead to more forest fires)**
All government land would have to be sold off to pay off the debt, and it would be bought up by those who are wealthy enough to buy it.**
No Small Business loans**
No one to oversee Wall Street and investors**
No passports to travel to other lands**
Railroads would end up in disrepair – prices would go up to offset subsidies and
             maintenance**
No protection from exorbitant fees and “charges” on credit cards, bank accounts, etc.
Without a “United States” you could end up having to pay to cross every state line
States would not have to recognize driver’s licenses, marriage certificates, college degrees, certifications, etc. if you moved.
Health insurance would not cover you if you crossed state lines.**

Which of these are you willing to give up????

Remember, the military accounts for a bigger portion than any other expenses.
What you spend in taxes now would look minor compared to higher costs of everything. When everything is privatized, and you have no government intervention, prices go as high as the private investors believe they can charge. So if you pay $5,000 in taxes every year, chances are, it would cost you more than that in increased prices for almost everything.

And, there would still be debt that needs to be repaid.

If we did away with only the federal government, everything that has * or ** would go up in cost, if kept at all.

And you think your taxes are so high???? Look at where the U.S. stands in taxes:

You don’t like our tax rates? Perhaps you would rather move to:
Kuwait, Albania, Venezuela, Egypt, Yemen, Angola, Honduras, Ukraine,
Thailand, Serbia, or Jordan

Who would protect you from price gouging? Or even your neighbors? What would keep your insurance company from refusing to pay for damages or losses? Will your neighbors help you stop your home from burning down? Who would pay for temporary housing if your home is destroyed by fire, tornado, hurricane, flooding, or earthquake? Where would we house serial killers? Who would try to find serial killers, bank robbers, murderers?  Who would keep traffic running smoothly? Who would try to stop epidemics in your area? Who would rescue you if your boat was disabled and you were lost at sea? Who would make automakers repair defects? Who would shut down restaurants that are filthy? Who would stop companies from selling dangerous medicines? The list goes on.

The Libertarian Party claims:  "The world we seek to build is one where individuals are free to follow their own dreams in their own ways, without interference from government"  However, what happens when your neighbor doesn't agree with you over property lines?  Or disturbing your peace?  Who will decide who is right in an accident? And who would decide if your freedom has been denied? Who would make the person who denied you of your rights stop?
Their platform indicates that they expect each person to do what is right, and because everyone will, we do not need government. Do you really believe people who break the law, when there are laws, can be counted on to do what is right when there are no consequences?  But, if there is no law, do you defend yourself?  If so, aren't you violating the other person's right? True Libertarians (who follow the platform) are against abortion laws, laws concerning religion, laws supporting religion, taxes, regulations, protecting the environment, etc.

What do we need government for?
To protect us from those inside & outside our country, who wish to harm us
To help individuals with disputes
To find and punish those who refuse to respect the rights and property of others
To protect people from unsafe products being sold
To provide a unity between states
To provide uniform laws, and reciprocity of laws between states
To help those who have suffered catastrophic losses
To help states with expenses (education, infrastructure, law enforcement, safety)
To give "the people" a sense of belonging to their country
To create good relations with other countries, so as to avoid conflict
To provide some uniformity throughout the country.
And so many more things

By sharing expenses for all of these across the states, everyone pays similar taxes. Whereas if each state was individual, some states, such as those in the Southeast, would find their taxes increasing exponentially, because they would be paying for all their own infrastructure, schooling, etc. States with smaller populations would have higher taxes than those with large populations. (Alaska, and Montana, watch out!) States with more natural disasters would pay higher amounts when they are hit.

As the United States, we are a large, formidable country, with only a few borders that are easily penetrated. As separate states, how vulnerable would we be? Would you trust your surrounding states to help keep your borders safe?

So, look at what our tax dollars provide us with and see what you want to eliminate. Then, instead of complaining, contact your representatives, and ask them to do something about it. And, don't vote if you do not know what your representative actually stands for. Check their voting record, not their promises. See what bills they have sponsored?  If the candidates have not served in government before, check their credentials. Do they understand the Constitution? What have they done to contribute to society up until now? Who is donating to them?  What do those who know them say? How do they live? If wealthy, do they help others?  Are they honest about their past? Do they answer questions, avoid them, or change the subject? Do they support education? Do they support equal freedoms for all?
Claims of "fiscal responsibility" are proven to be false when billions of dollars are wasted on frivolous bills that can never pass, failure to discuss and debate submitted bills, and including "amendments" that add additional costs to the bill (usually about something other than the actual bill), and shutting down the government.
If you really want a change in our government, you need to be an informed voter, who votes based on facts, not feelings. Base your decision on past performance, not empty promises. If you really want to change government, run for office. Or, be the most informed voter possible. The U.S. wins when our voters are intelligent, informed, and inquisitive.
The People lose when voters vote based solely on party, or political promises. If you have never voted across party lines, you just might be what's wrong with this country. Not everyone follows party platform. Candidates are not always what their ads say they are. Look at how many representatives have proven that they do not actually live by the standards they claimed to be for. And STOP falling for Media's LIES!!! Check it out for yourself, and not from a biased website!

So, small government, no government, state only, or fix what we have?  If you don't vote intelligently, it is up to those who buy our Congressmen that will decide for you. It is up to each one of us to make sure our representatives know what we expect of them. Let's not get stuck on "talking points". It is better to be specific. You want to "cut spending"?  Where??
